Wells FargoWells Fargo
Stephen Yau has been at the CEID branch Wells Fargo for the last twelve years. Over that time, he has seen many changes to the neighborhood. Wells Fargo is the top lender to small businesses, both in Oregon and nationwide. That focus on small businesses makes them a major asset to the neighborhood. Besides fostering small businesses, Wells Fargo supports many charitable causes, with a focus on improving the lives of low- and moderate-income individuals. In Oregon, the organizations they support include local chapters of Habitat for Humanity and United Way, and Reading First, and program to help young readers build their skills.

Mac ForceMacforce
When Macforce opened in 2001, it was one of the first retail stores in the CEID. Macforce and its employees are passionate about sustainability and green causes—owner Shane Spiess brags that he is a “recycling fiend.” The Macforce fleet of fuel-efficient cars can often be seen around the CEID, and they’ve encouraged their clients to go paperless.

Shane recognizes the lack of recycling standards in the electronics repair field, and is committed to reducing the amount of electronics (and toxic byproducts) that end up in landfills. This effort includes refurbishing old Macs, which Macforce then gives to low-income children through their program Macs 2 Kids.

Kat Schon is co-owner of Portland Store Fixtures and founder of the SAT (Sponsor a Teacher) program, an organization dedicated to connecting small businesses directly with teachers and school programs in need of funding.

As Kat says, “These kids are the same ones that we will want to employ in the near future, their parents shop in our community and it just makes sense to help if we can. Everyone involved sees that it is a small business sponsoring, not the government, not a big corporate company, just a regular business in the neighborhood. This, we hope, will promote more involvement from the community to be engaged in our future, and remember that an investment in our children is an investment in ourselves.”

If you have any questions or need help finding a teacher to support please email to kat@portlandstorefixtures.com. Make a difference today in your community. Sponsor a teacher.
